Enough is Enough: Rediscovering the True Purpose of Gospel Music

I’ve had enough of hearing so much gospel music that serves self rather than serving the purposes of God.

“Here and Now – Volume One” didn’t begin as just another music project. It was birthed during a time of deep prayer and fasting at the start of 2022. Normally, when I fast corporately with my church, I don’t hear much of a personal word from the Lord during those moments. For me, the Word of the Lord usually comes in quiet, intimate moments when He calls me aside—when He says, “Come up. Spend time with Me.” That’s when I truly hear His voice.

But this time… it was different.

I heard God clearly. He said, “I want this praise out of you. I want this thanksgiving.”
He impressed on my heart that I was to be an example in delivering His Word. He told me:

“Take the scriptures, the words I have spoken through my prophets, my apostles—holy men inspired by the Holy Ghost. Take their words, and sing these songs. Let these songs glorify Me!”

That was the mandate. And that’s what Here and Now – Volume One became.

This Is Bigger Than Me

Some of the songs already existed, but many were unfinished. As I moved forward, the Lord led me—step by step. This entire journey became about taking the Word of God and turning it into song.

Tired of gospel music focused on fame, trends, and emotions instead of glorifying God? Discover worship that returns to the heart of truth—music that lifts up His name and delivers His Word with purpose.

People need to hear who God truly is. They need to know the way to salvation. Gospel music isn’t just about catchy hooks, trends, or emotional lyrics—it’s about declaring the divine truth of God’s Word, set to melody. When rooted in Scripture, worship music becomes more than a sound—it becomes a spiritual calling that points hearts back to Christ. As an ambassador of His truth, I use gospel music to glorify God and deliver the message of reconciliation to a world that desperately needs it.

The Real Gospel Message

We do this to praise the Lord and spread His good news to the world. That’s what gospel music should always be about—the Gospel itself. It should contain God’s story, His message, and His power.

Yes, our testimonies matter. As scripture says:

“We overcome by the blood of the Lamb and the word of our testimony” – Revelation 12:11

More than anything, our songs must be rooted in the Word of God. This is the message we’ve been entrusted to share—not just melodies that entertain, but truth that transforms. Gospel music is a sacred calling, not a trend. When grounded in Scripture, it becomes a vessel for salvation, healing, and reconciliation through Christ.

A Biblical Call to Sing

Paul reminds us in Colossians 3:16 and Ephesians 5:19:

“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly… singing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs to the Lord.”

And that’s what this is all about.

If we’re not rooted in the Word of God, we’re just making noise—doing what anyone else can do. But I’m not here to entertain. I’m here because God has called me to be an ambassador of His truth. Through the ministry of reconciliation, I use music to share the Gospel and bring people back to Him. It’s time gospel music returns to its roots. Let’s make it about God again.
